Casa del Re Cipro
Leaving the Monticano gate and crossing the bridge, you find yourself in Borgo Madonna, also called Borgo Vecchio.
Here, suffocated among modern buildings, a beautiful fifteenth-century construction survives, with three arches on the ground floor, a central three-light window on the second floor and now vague traces of frescoes on the façade; this is called the House of the King of Cyprus because it belonged to the husband of the Venetian Caterina Cornaro, who became queen of the island. Originally the façade was completely frescoed with geometric and floral compartments and depictions of allegorical and rural scenes. The frescoes are certainly by Dario da Treviso, who placed his signature in 1472 and was one of the many students of the Squarcione who worked for a long time in Conegliano. Today the most intact part is in the portico above a pointed arch, which depicts two towers with battlements and a Gothic church with a beautiful tower.
