An aperitif in Conegliano
You can’t leave Conegliano without first enjoying an aperitif in one of the many bars that animate the historic center of the city.
Taste a glass of Prosecco Superiore Docg or a Spritz, accompanying it with typical “cicchetti “of the Treviso cuisine, like the delicious croutons with creamed cod or meat balls, is one of the many ways to experience the area!
And… speaking of Spritz: this drink, among the most loved and famous in the world, actually has a very particular history!
In fact, Spritz was born during the period of Habsburg domination in Veneto, in the nineteenth century.
In fact, Austrian soldiers and officials had gotten into the habit of sprinkling a little water (in German “spritzen”) into the wine they drank in our territory, to reduce its alcohol content. The original Spritz recipe in fact calls for white or red wine diluted with sparkling water: this is what we know today as “Spritz bianco” (white Spritz).
After the First World War, the Barbieri and Pilla liqueur houses invented Aperol and Select, two aperitifs that began to be added to the Spritz, creating the variant that we all know today!
