Our region and surroundings
For those who travel to know more about the world, for those in self- discovery, for those who believe that in order to understand the present, it is necessary to know their own roots and for those who enjoy admiring creative achievements of past generations, Veneto has a beautiful story to tell.
Civilized for three thousand years, Veneto was made unified for centuries in the image and spirit of the Serenissima Republic of Venice, but still today it’s enriched by lively local personalities, with original and unmistakable cultural experiences. Veneto can be freely traveled, explored and rediscovered by tourists who are passionate about culture and that follow the thread of their own prevailing interests: for a particular subject or for the work of certain protagonists in art and culture, for cultural landscapes, sites declaring the heritage of humanity, or to know places and itineraries of particular value.
Veneto is also the privileged workshop for exhibition and performance experiments on an international level, in the various branches of contemporary arts, frequently attentive to dialogue within the context that hosts them, in the tradition from which they come and consequentially, far surpassing them. Those who come to look for culture, art and history in the Veneto region are never disappointed.
Starting from Conegliano you can visit the cities of Veneto and Friuli. The limited distances of the main regional tourist destinations will allow you to stay in our charming city and at the same time find yourself at the center of culture and charm in our region. Conegliano is also at the foot of the Wonderful Dolomites and equally close to the beautiful beaches of the upper Adriatic.

Treviso
(28 km from Conegliano)
Treviso is a city to visit in every season, with the slow pace of those who want to savor every corner, discover original sights and breathe in the peaceful atmosphere of a small town. Piazza dei Signori, with its Palazzo dei Trecento and the elegant Loggia Dei Cavalieri, is the heart of the city and a central hub for Treviso residents.
The two rivers, Sile and Cagnan, are enclosed by the ancient walls and wind through the streets, giving the historic center a unique charm. The porticoed houses with beautiful frescoed facades, reflecting on the Buranelli canal and the Pescheria island (created in the Cagnan river to house the fish market) display the close relationship between Treviso and its waters.
A notable monument is the Duomo which contains, inside the Malchiostro Chapel, the frescoes by Pordenone and the altarpiece with the Annunciation by Titian. Other artistic treasures are enclosed in the museum center of Santa Caterina dei Servi di Maria, including the cycle of the stories of Sant’Orsola by Tommaso da Modena, and some works by G. Bellini, Lotto, Tiziano, J. Bassano. The Dominican church of San Nicolò is also worth a visit, with its famous Sala del Capitolo, frescoed by Tommaso da Modena. For art lovers, the appointment is in the Casa dei Cararresi, which has become in recent years, the seat of prestigious international exhibitions. A city, in short, that knows how to give magical moments to those who love to walk without haste on the waterways, on the cobblestones consumed by time and history and to find themselves then seated in a tavern, overlooking the squares, while they taste the delicacies of Treviso.
Asolo
(40 km from Conegliano)
Carducci called it “the city of a hundred horizons” for the beauty of the surrounding landscape, the same that Giorgione reproduced several times in his paintings. Asolo, a charming medieval village nestled in the Treviso hills, was a splendid Renaissance court at the time of Caterina Cornaro. Having become queen of Cyprus, it ceded the island to the Serenissima Republic in exchange for receiving the fascinating village, then transformed it into a prestigious literary salon. The town of Treviso was deeply loved by two other great women: the actress Eleonora Duse, the “Divine”, and the English writer and explorer Freya Stark. Both lived in Asolo and both are buried in the Cemetery of S. Anna.
Symbol of Asolo is the Rocca that dominates the landscape from the summit of Mount Ricco, offering a spectacular view. From here you can see the historic center of the city: Piazza Garibaldi with its sixteenth-century fountain, the Castle, which today houses the Duse Theater, and the ancient Cathedral, which houses the beautiful “Assunta” by Lorenzo Lotto. To see are: the Civic Museum, inside the fifteenth-century Palazzo della Ragione, the sixteenth-century Villa degli Armeni and the prestigious seat of the Municipality, Palazzo Beltramini. Just outside the city center, golf lovers can practice on a challenging and fascinating 18-hole course.
Venice
(57 km from Conegliano)
An orange gem resting on a blue glass plate: this is Venice seen from above. A large apartment made up of corridors and living rooms, a place where one always walks inside, where one is never outside, where privacy does not really exist: here, from the pages of Henry James, Venice inside. I wonder if the Venetian passion for the mask was born from the fascination of the unknown and of the protection of one’s identity. There are endless pages written on Venice because the city “Is a dimension of the soul so that with it, sooner or later, everyone must keep the pen in hand”.
It is a unique city and one of a kind, just think about how it was built, how can it stand without it’s foundations collapsing, such as the bell towers of Piazza San Marco, the Basilica della Salute or the Church of the Redeemer? Always challenged during the construction of a new building, whether small or large, the city has continually had to deal with water, salt, mud and sand.
In Venice you go on foot (as in New York) or by vaporetto or gondola and the latter is one of the many symbols of the city in the lagoon.
The word gondola is found for the first time in a decree of the doge Vitale Falier of 1094, the etymology could derive from two Latin terms: cymbula which means “barchetta” or also conche which means “shell”. It could also be a word derived from the Greek Kuntecas: “push boat”.
Padua
(72 km from Conegliano)
Padua is a city rich in history, tradition and culture. It is difficult to say which is the most prestigious feature of the city of Padua, whether religious, artistic or cultural. The Basilica of St. Anthony is a destination for pilgrims from all over the world, similarly to the frescoes by Giotto of the Scrovegni Chapel, not to mention the prestigious university, which had Galileo Galilei among it’s teachers. Those who stay in Padua cannot deny a visit to the Botanical Gardens, Palazzo del Bo, Caffè Pedrocchi, Prato della Valle, the Tomb of Antenor, the Specola, Palazzo Zabarella … to name a few.
But Padua is not just history, it is also a city alive and above all, full of young people! Their presence is clearly due to the University (the University of Padua is one of the oldest in Italy and the world) and more often in recent years, there is the presence not only of Italian students, but also of foreign students , which thanks to the Erasmus project more and more crowd the spritz squares. Yes because the “must” of Padua (and Veneto in general) is the hour of the aperitif, which here is synonymous with spriz (1/3 selz + 1/3 prosecco + 1/3 Aperol or Campari). The meeting is on Wednesday evening in Piazza delle Erbe, which during the most beautiful (meteorologically) and warm days, the square is crowded with several hundreds of students!
Vicenza
(80 km from Conegliano)
Vicenza is a city of art, declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1994 for the masterpieces of the architect Andrea Palladio. It fascinates for the nobility of the palaces it displays in its historic center, for the Palladian masterpieces whose two main squares (Piazza dei Signori and Piazza Matteotti) are embellished, for churches with precious altars, in a harmonious set of proportions.
Udine
(82 km from Conegliano)
Historic capital of Friuli, Udine is a quiet and welcoming city. The visit of the historic center reserves surprises for art lovers: the Venetian flowery Gothic combined harmoniously with Habsburg motifs (a reminder that this is a border land), while the works of Giambattista Tiepolo peep out at every corner, in the churches and in noble palaces. The small morainic hill located north of Udine offers a splendid view over the roofs of the city.
Aquileia
(100 km from Conegliano)
Aquileia was founded by the Romans as a military colony in 181 BC It was first a bulwark against the invasion of barbarian populations and a starting point for expeditions and military conquests. Thanks to a good network of roads and an imposing river port, over time it became increasingly important for its trade and for the development of a very refined craft (glass, amber, fictilia, gems …). It reached its peak under the domain of Caesar Augustus (27 BC – 14 AD) becoming capital of the X Regio “Venetia et Histria” and accelerating that process that would have made it one of the most important metropolis’s of the Roman Empire. During the following centuries, internal wars, raids or external reprisals and rapid incursions, threatened the city which, involved in the wider crisis of the Empire, slowly began to acquire a new face, becoming, with the arrival of Christianity, a center for missionary activity and of ecclesiastical organizations.
Cortina d’Ampezzo
(102 km from Conegliano)
The elegant Cortina, a town nestled in the famous mountains of the Dolomiti Unesco, a sought after summer and winter tourist destination, offers guests many tourist attractions but also cultural ones. Strolling on the main strip, in search of “important” encounters, shopping in boutiques, visiting museums, playing sports or even lying in the sun and admiring a fairytale view.
Verona
(130 km from Conegliano)
Verona, a splendid city of art, nestled in ancient history and ingrained into the myth of the Shakespearean masterpiece. Roman remains, medieval vestiges, Venetian testimonies and Austrian footprints adorn the ancient palaces, squares, bridges and the wonderful churches, left all to be discovered. In the historic center Piazza Bra and the Arena, Piazza Erbe and Piazza dei Signori, Via Cappello and Corso Porta Borsari give way to the Roman Theater, Ponte Pietra, Castelvecchio, Ponte Scaligero and the historic churches of San Fermo and Sant ‘ Anastasia, of the Duomo and San Zeno. Elegant cafes and historic taverns, craft shops and high-fashion shops enliven the city life throughout the year. A moderately sized city that enchants you with its elegance and warmly welcomes you amongst the flavors of ancient and modern. Verona … See it and immediately fall in love with it, then come back to discover it.
