Monte di Pietà
The ancient Monte di Pietà (now a hotel and restaurant) commissioned by the Confraternita dei Battuti in 1524 to try to improve the living conditions of the most humble strata, was often forced by the need to pay huge interests to the Jews.
This beautiful building is characterized by a fresco that covers the entire façade with little angels, among clouds, which support instruments of Passion. In the center, above the elegant loggia of the ground floor, a beautiful stone frame underlines the image of the Pietà. Ludovico Fiumicelli, a talented painter who from 1529 held the office of chief of the arquebusiers of the city, is probably the author of this work.
