Susegana
The particular morphology of the hilly and Piedmont territory north of Treviso has favored, since ancient times, the creation of a dense system of fortified sites located at strategic points of the agricultural landscape. Noteworthy are the ruins of Collalto Castle, built by Ensedisio I in 1110, and the grandiose complex of the castle of San Salvatore, built starting in 1245. Church of the Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary The original church, probably dedicated to San Daniele, it was rebuilt for the first time in the 12th century, while the current building – dedicated to the Visitation – was built together with the bell tower in the fifteenth century due to the interest of the lords of Collalto. Strongly damaged during the First World War, the church still preserves the altarpiece depicting the Madonna with Saints, painted by Giovanni Antonio de ‘Sacchis, known as Il Pordenone, in the 16th century and remains of fifteenth-century frescoes, rediscovered during the restoration work begun in 1984.
