The Territory

Here, in the province of Treviso, on the hills that rise from Conegliano to the north west towards Valdobbiadene, the wine culture has been cultivated together with the Glera grape for centuries. In fact, in 1876 the first Italian oenological school, the Cerletti Institute, was opened in Conegliano, in 1923 the Experimental Institute of Viticulture and Enology of Conegliano was founded and even today the University of Padua has established its own detachment of the Faculty of enology. In this land, which still today is limited to 15 municipalities: Conegliano, San Vendemiano, Colle Umberto, Vittorio Veneto, Tarzo, Cison di Valmarino, San Pietro di Feletto, Refrontolo, Susegana, Pieve di Soligo, Farra di Soligo, Follina, Miane , Vidor and Valdobbiadene, Conegliano Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore DOCG is born. Conegliano Valdobbiadene is the beating heart of a much larger area that represents the entire world of Prosecco, a varied panorama of nature and flavors that includes three denominations: Conegliano Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore DOCG, Asolo Prosecco Superiore DOCG and Prosecco DOC. All three denominations correspond to territories that differ in terms of extent and landscape. The complexity of the production of Prosecco and the differences between denominations are well represented by an ideal pyramid at the base of which we find the Prosecco DOC, produced in the very large territory (nine provinces between Veneto and Friuli Venezia Giulia), in the central part there is the Asolo Prosecco Superiore DOCG and at the top the Conegliano Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore DOCG, the sparkling wine produced on the hills between Conegliano and Valdobbiadene which represents the expression of the best quality of Prosecco; the latter reaches the highest positions with the refined selections of the Rive and, at the top, with the Superiore di Cartizze DOCG, “Grand Cru” of Conegliano Valdobbiadene.
